American by birth but also French through adoption, Hilary Kaiser has lived in Paris for many years. Her life is like a bridge, spanning across the Atlantic. Indicatively, her family, educational and professional background, as well as her research, writing and outlook, all reflect her deep attachment to both the United States and France.
In addition to being the author of French War Brides in America and Veteran Recall: Americans in France Remember the War, both of which were also published in France under French titles, Hilary is an oral historian, researcher, lecturer, cross-cultural trainer and world traveler. An experienced interviewer, she has herself been interviewed on radio and television and in the press.
During her academic career, Hilary published articles on religion in America and also on the American presence in France. She continues to give animated and informative lectures on a variety of subjects, ranging from the historical and cultural backgrounds of both France and the U.S., Franco-American cultural differences, French war brides and their assimilation into American culture, and intercultural communication and management.
Hilary has done voluntary work with orphans in Shanghai, China and indigenous children in Guatemala and built houses with Habitat for Humanity in South Africa and Hungary. Her penchant for independent travel, adventure and getting to know different cultures "from the bottom-up" has taken her to some 50 countries around the world.
